Combermere Abbey, a complex of medieval and 16th century buildings with very extensive Gothic enveloping (of the early 19th century), began as a Cistercian monastery founded in 1133 by Hugh de Malbanc, Lord of Nantwich. It sits overlooking a 143 acre lake and set in gentle rolling parkland filled with ancient oaks.

Our eleven cottages have been skillfully integrated into a Grade 2* stable block built in 1837. Named after an important figure in the estate’s 870-year history, the individual style and decoration of each one reflects their personalities. We have introduced excellence in design and service and go the extra yard by offering a range of ideas to make your stay as pleasurable and problem free as possible. A welcome tray with home made biscuits greet your arrival and Penhaligons toiletries are in each bathroom. All electricity, linen, towels and firewood are included in the rental. Each cottage has a ‘Black Book’ directory of local places to eat, see and enjoy.

Combermere also offers in house holistic treatments with our trained therapists plus we have arranged a selection of excellent spa packages at two local spas, should you prefer to enjoy these as part of a day out.

Combermere Abbey Cottages provide an outstanding location for groups of friends or colleagues to get together, whatever the reason, including providing a spectacular wedding venue. The high level of service means that once arrived, every effort is made to make the stay as easy as possible. Brunch hampers ordered in advance and a large selection of frozen meals are available for the last minute decision! The gardens, tennis court, walks and games are all available to all guests to our cottages.
